Is Yanosik legal in Poland? Warning systems, radar detectors and jammers
24 July 2026 · 7 min read

Yes, Yanosik can be used in Poland. It is a road warning system based on GPS location, a database of points and driver reports. It does not detect waves emitted by police radar and does not interfere with the measurement, therefore it is not a radar detector or jammer. The manufacturer of YANBOX devices also clearly states that the equipment is not a radar detector and there is no fine for using it in Poland.
In short: Yanosik warns based on location and road situation data. The radar detector responds to the operation of the measuring device, and the jammer tries to disturb the measurement. These are three different ways of doing things and should not be lumped together.
Yanosik, radar detector and jammer - the most important differences
The colloquial term "legal radar" itself is misleading. Yanosik does not check whether radar is working nearby. It knows the vehicle's position thanks to GPS and compares it with saved points and current reports from the community. The radar detector receives the signals of the control and measurement device, and the jammer transmits its own signal to make the measurement difficult or impossible.

What exactly does the Road Traffic Law say?
Article 66 section 4 point 4 of the Road Traffic Law prohibits equipping a vehicle with a device informing about the operation of control and measurement equipment used by road traffic control authorities or disturbing its operation. The prohibition also covers transporting such a device in a condition indicating readiness for use.
In Yanosik's case, the key is the way he operates. The system does not listen to radar waves and does not send a jamming signal. The warning is based on GPS position, saved location or information reported by other drivers. On this basis, the manufacturer distinguishes YANBOX devices from radar detectors and confirms the possibility of using them legally in Poland.
Basis and explanation: Road traffic law - art. 66 section 4 point 4 · official Yanosik support - legality of YANBOX devices
This guide explains the general rules applicable in Poland. It does not replace individual legal advice, especially regarding a non-standard device whose method of operation may be different from the Yanosik system.
How does Yanosik know about the speed camera or control
- Fixed speed cameras and sectional speed measurements may be included in the saved location database.
- Information about accidents, disruptions and inspections may come from reports from the driving community.
- GPS determines the vehicle's position and allows it to warn the driver about a point on the route.
- The system does not analyze waves emitted by the police radar and does not confirm whether the device is currently measuring.
- Yanosik does not send a signal that would interfere with radar, lidar or other control and measurement devices.
- The message is intended to give you time to calmly assess the situation, slow down and increase your attention.
Does the Police support Yanosik
The police cooperated with the Yanosika operator on specific information and educational campaigns regarding security. This does not mean that the Police advertises every device model or issues a decision on its legality. However, it shows that the Yanosik system is also used to provide drivers with messages about real threats, and not only information about speed control.
In 2025, the Road Traffic Office of the Police Headquarters and Neptis, the operator of Yanosik, carried out the "Slow down - dangerous point" campaign. The police selected 752 particularly dangerous locations based on accident data from 2022-2024. Drivers approaching these places received a message in Yanosik encouraging them to reduce speed and increase attention.
This wasn't the only collaboration. In 2023, the Police was a partner of the "Drive Safely with Yanosik" campaign, and previously they jointly ran the "Grabs on the Steering Wheel" campaign dedicated to the dangers of using a phone while driving.

Is Yanosik legal abroad
Legality in Poland does not automatically mean the same rules throughout Europe. Individual countries treat radar detectors, jammers, social media applications and speed camera warnings differently. Before leaving, you need to check the current regulations of the destination country and transit countries. This applies to both a separate device and an application on your phone.
If you are traveling abroad, do not base your decision solely on the application settings or forum advice. Check official information for each country the route passes through.
