Phone battery replacement - when is it worth it

Replacing the battery makes sense when the phone works well, but discharges quickly, turns off at a dozen or so percent or does not last a day. If the device is very old, has a damaged screen or the cost of the battery is close to the value of the phone, it is better to compare the repair with buying a new or used model.

Symptoms of a dead battery

The battery wears out with each charging cycle. After some time, the phone still works, but behaves differently than at first. Most often, the customer notices this in winter, while traveling or when the phone stops working until the evening.

  • The phone quickly drops from 100% to 60-70%.
  • The device turns off at 20% or 30%.
  • The battery swells and pushes out the back cover or screen.
  • The phone gets very hot during normal use.
  • The system shows a low battery message.

How much does it cost to replace a phone battery

Approximately, replacing batteries in popular phones usually costs from about PLN 120 to PLN 350. Simpler models and easily available parts are cheaper, while newer smartphones, glued phones or models with more expensive parts may cost more.

This is not a fixed price list. The final price depends on the phone model, battery availability, quality of parts and design of the device. It is best to check a specific model before making a decision.

Repair or buy another phone

A good rule of thumb is simple: if the phone is fast, the screen is intact, the camera works, and the memory is still sufficient, the battery will often extend the life of the device by another year or two. However, if the phone freezes, doesn't update, has a cracked screen and a weak battery, repairing it may no longer be profitable.

At Sympatia we also have used phones in very good condition and new models. This is important because sometimes a customer comes willing to replace the battery, and after comparing the cost of repair with the price of a newer device, chooses a safer option.

New phone, used phone or battery

  • Battery replacement is good when you like your phone and there is nothing wrong with it other than the battery.
  • A used phone in very good condition makes sense when you want a better model without the price of a new device.
  • Choose a new phone if you want a warranty, fresh battery and longer support.
  • Don't blindly buy based on the model number - it's worth taking the phone in your hand and checking its condition.

Does replacing the battery erase data

Replacing the battery itself should not erase data because it does not affect the phone's memory. Still, it's a good idea to have a copy of your photos, contacts and important files before any repair. Your phone is an electronic device, and being careful with your data always pays off.
